rFactor 2 install guide
How to Add a Custom Livery in rFactor 2
Use the loose-skin route for the simple case: create the directory from the tuning/setup menu, let the Ailivery Windows helper drop the DDS in (or place it by hand), and select the alt skin.
What you'll need
rFactor 2
The car installed and available in the tuning/setup menu.
Car paint template
The template for the car you want to paint.
Ailivery export
A DDS export for the loose-skin folder, plus Mas2.exe if you want a shareable MAS package.
Install a custom livery in rFactor 2
- 1
Export the DDS
Generate and download the DDS from Ailivery.
- 2
Create the loose skin directory
In the car's tuning/setup menu, click Create Dir. This creates a loose skin directory under the typical Steam path. Exact paths can vary by version and install location.
Loose skin directory...\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player\Settings\<car>\ - 3
Place and select the skin
Once the folder exists, the Ailivery Windows helper can drop the DDS in for you, or copy it there by hand. Then select the alt skin in the tuning menu.
- 4
Package for sharing
For a full or shareable livery, package the DDS into a MAS file with Mas2.exe from the rF2 launcher. See the rFactor 2 skinning tutorial on OverTake.
If the skin doesn't show up
Created folder is hard to find
Use Create Dir first, then look under the car's folder in UserData\player\Settings.
Alt skin not selected
After placing the DDS, return to the tuning menu and select the alt skin.
Sharing requires packaging
A loose skin is simplest locally; a full/shareable livery requires MAS packaging.
