Live for Speed install guide
How to Add a Custom Skin in Live for Speed
Design a custom Live for Speed skin with AI, then get it in the game: save the template from the garage, name it for the car, and drop the exported .jpg in data\skins.
What you’ll need
Live for Speed
The game installed, and the car you want to paint.
The skin template
Generated in the garage and saved from your clipboard as a JPG.
The car’s code
The three characters the game shows for a stock car, or a mod car’s six-character skin ID.
Install a custom skin in Live for Speed
- 1
Save the template
In Live for Speed open Garage → Colours and click Generate Skin Template. The game copies the template to your clipboard, so paste it into an image editor and save it.
- 2
Name it for the car
Save it as the car’s code, an underscore, then any name you like. This is the step that decides everything: the game matches a skin to a car by the start of the file name.
File nameXRT_myskin.jpg - 3
Design it
Upload that file to Ailivery, describe the livery you want, and refine it until it is right. Your file name travels with it.
- 4
Download and drop it in
Export the skin. You get one JPG under the name you uploaded — do not rename it — and it goes in the
data\skinsfolder inside your Live for Speed installation. Then pick the skin in the garage.Skins folder...\LFS\data\skins
If the skin doesn’t show up
The name is wrong
This is almost always it. Live for Speed reads the car from the characters before the underscore, and a name it does not recognise is skipped without a word — myskin.jpg loads nothing at all.
Wrong folder
Skins live in data\skins inside the Live for Speed installation, wherever you unzipped it — not under Documents.
Not selected yet
The file being there does not put it on the car. Choose the skin in the garage.
Design one with AI
Create original artwork in Ailivery and export the one JPG Live for Speed loads.
